What is the Load Index (Max Load)?

The load-carrying capacity of a tire is described in its load index. The higher the tire's load index number, the greater its load carrying capacity. This is a one, two, or three-digit number. Each number corresponds to an assigned maximum load limit, some examples of which can be found on the chart shown below.
